Q1: If you had the opportunity to get an inspiring message across to a large amount of people, what would your message be?
A1: Be yourself and do what you wanna do, don’t settle for second best and strive towards what you want out of life.
Q2: How did you get started with your music? And if you weren’t an artist/musician what would you want to be doing?
A2: I’ve always wanted to be a musician but it’s only been in the last five years or so that I’ve done anything about it, I started listening to music that moved me and spoke to me and then started recreating it in my own way
Q3: What or who keeps you motivated and inspires you?
A3: What keeps me motivated is my desire to get my music out there and for people to listen to the atmospheres I create within my writing, my girlfriend keeps me on the straight and narrow too, she pulls me together when things get stressful haha
Q4: What is the most memorable experience of your life/career so far? And what have you learned from it?
A4: I recently performed at my first paid gig, I had my two bandmates with me and everything just felt and sounded right, it was a lovely venue and I suppose what I learned from it was that I want to do more gigs like it!
Q5: Would you go back and change anything in your journey so far? (If no, why)
A5: I think if you don’t make mistakes then you don’t learn how to move forward, so who knows I think if did go back and change anything then I might not necessarily be where I am now.
Q6: In the next two years what do you ASPIRE to have done?
A6: well I have an Ep coming out in September and I want to release another one next year, I want to build my fan base and keep learning and honing my craft.
Q7: How much of your life and background have influenced you to become a songwriter/musician?
A7: Everything I write about has connections to events that have happened and feelings that I have felt or am feeling, however I really want people that listen to my songs to create their own image of what they think it’s about, so I write very ambiguously so there will always be hidden meanings within every song.
Q8: What lyrics mean the most to you and why (ones you have written and or ones you didn’t write)
A8:The lyrics that mean the most to me are always the ones that hold a lot of importance to me on a personal level, sometimes I read back on what I’ve written and I’m brought back to certain emotions and events that have changed me in both the good and the bad.
Q9: If you could collaborate with anyone who would to it be and why?
A9:It would have to be Novo Amor, he is my biggest influence, I love the way he writes his music and the images that I get from the little details within the tracks, I love the sound of ambience and I believe he captures it perfectly.
Q10: What is most inspiring message you have internalised in life so far?
A10: I went to a Novo Amor concert last year and managed to speak to him after the gig, I told him what I did and how he has a massive influence on my song writing and he told me to keep going and keep making music, at the time it was the push I needed to keep going with many things in my life not just my music.
Q11: What is your motto in life/what do you live by?
A11: ‘you have to get lost to find something new’ – It’s a lyric I’ve been trying to put into a song for years but I think it speaks true to me, I’m always trying to find new ways to further my song writing and the way I construct tracks, I also like the idea of getting lost in a forest or something and finding something that not necessarily anyone has come across before.
Q12: What is currently on your playlist?
A12: At the moment, I’m listening to SYML and Fleet Foxes a fair bit, at heart I love Folk music and I think that specific genre will always find a place within my playlists.
Q13: If you could have a song to be the soundtrack to your life what would it be and why?
A13: ‘Probably Half Moon Run’s ‘Call Me In The Afternoon’, its fast moving complicated and doesn’t seem to stop for breath, a bit like my life at the moment with my music stuff as well as work and the looming pains of going back to uni to write tones of essays last minute!
Q14: What are your biggest dreams? and what are your biggest fears
A14: my biggest dream would be that I want to settle down one day with my own house and family, nothing big or exciting just something that I could look back on think ‘yeah I helped create this’
my biggest fear would probably be letting people down, be it family or friends, I always aim to do the right thing by them and make them all proud
Q15: What is next for you/your plans for the next year?
A15: Well on the 12th of September my debut EP ‘Shades of Wilderness’ comes out and after that I plan on creating another Ep of four tracks, music aside I want to pass onto my third year at uni and develop my skillset for the future
Q16: What would your advice to be to those out there who want to live out there dreams? A16:
I’d have to say just go for it, if you wait too long you’ll miss your window and regret it!
Q17: Lastly, for those who don’t know where can people follow your career?
A17: all my social media can be found at ‘Jamesbloommusic’ and on there you can find links to my music on Soundcloud, YouTube and the world of streaming and download
